This is Gill's Story
Gillian Bridger, or Gill (as most people know her), is a dedicated Professional Photographer and Dog Trainer/Behaviourist based in Nova Scotia, with over a decade of hands-on experience in the pet industry.
It all started with a profound love for dogs and a passion to tell stories through her camera lens.

With hard work and determination, she became the first person in her family to graduate from any post-secondary institution, completing the Professional Photography Program at NSCC in 2023.​​

Gill understands firsthand the challenges and joys that come with dog ownership and what it takes to manage and train a reactive or unpredictable dog. She welcomes dogs of all backgrounds, including those with bite histories and aggressive behaviours.
Her goal is to empower dog owners with the right tools, knowledge, and patience, teaching them that with a supportive and, most of all, non-judgmental environment, they can overcome any obstacle by learning and growing together.
Her passion for helping dogs and their owners is rooted in her venture with her own fear-reactive Belgian Malinois Shepherd: Mia whose life was turned upside down by a traumatic experience in her early development.

Mia was acquired via a Kijiji ad at 4 months old, with Gill and their partner meeting the breeder in a parking lot to avoid a long winter drive. This meant they never saw where Mia was kept or met her parents - a decision Gill deeply regrets. Mia was brought home with the intention of being Gill’s service animal and started training from day one.
Sadly, no amount of training Gill gave Mia would have prepared her for the next events that took place in their lives.

One single woman in their condo building would undo hundreds of hours of work. She was so verbally abusive toward both Mia and Gill that they had to get lawyers and police involved to keep her away. The actions of this woman turned their lives upside down. Mia was under a year old at the time and was already very vulnerable and sensitive.

This trauma ruined Mia's trust in people. Until March of 2026, she wouldn’t come near anyone and was very wary of strangers, barking, lunging and growling out of fear of being approached.
Mia is now considered a fear-reactive dog, but it is Gill’s life goal to show her the world isn’t as scary as she thinks it is. With the help of other dogs, kind people, time, medication and lots of treats, she is slowly healing - as is her owner - from the previous nightmare.
It's believed that Mia came from a backyard breeder on a chicken farm that did not specialize in raising litters of puppies, resulting in neurotic* and reactive behaviours. This upbringing and being part of a litter of 9 encouraged her severe food-guarding and fear of humans.
Mia’s triggers for reactivity include
Mia wears a muzzle in situations where Gill anticipates she may be reactive and is very comfortable wearing it. Gill is a huge advocate for the awareness of properly fitted muzzles and works to decrease the stigma around them. She believes muzzles are a valuable safety tool, often stating, “Good dogs wear muzzles!”
